Hello, my name is Christian Usera. I'm an Indie author/artist. Although I've produced several illustrated works, my most notable book is The Ones. The Ones is a post-modern creation myth about the origins of the cosmos. Each character is anthropomorphized. The main characters include "Everything," "Nothing" and "Infinity." Rather than being a book about dogmatic thinking, this work is actually meant to cause the reader to stop and ponder some very basic universal ideas. Ideas such as, "what is the nature of human consciousness" or how our minds work like a "blank canvas" upon which we create our personalized view of reality. However, interestingly enough this book was initially marketed towards children and its simple diction belies its subtext. The Ones has been featured in Voces Del Caribe and Northern Virginia Magazine. The work was also the subject of "Marassa 10" a conference celebrating Caribbean writers and artists. The event was sponsored by New York University's comparative literature department. It was co-sponsored Kamau Brathwaite, a world-renowned poet. Brathwaite said of the book , "(It is)...a work of great wonder."
In 2010, I completed a series of acrylic paintings for the international art magazine I Want You (www.iwantyoumagazine.com/Christian-Usera/) The inspiration for that series was the idea of "Characters" and what they mean to me. In addition to writing and illustrating, I also create personal commissions for people as well. Who is Christian Usera?
Christian Usera is a writer and an artist. He graduated from New York University (NYU) with a degree in English and creative writing. Although mostly self-taught, Usera has taken painting classes at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, Virginia and in New York City. He has lived in four states. Usera briefly lived abroad in Spain and Bulgaria. His work has been featured in "Voces del Caribe" and "Northern Virginia Magazine." Usera currently resides in Denver, Colorado.
THE ONES- (Creative) Synopsis by Christian Usera.
This is "Everything." He's a mischievous one. Perhaps it's difficult living under the shadow of his father (Infinity) or that his mother is a vacuous space (Nothing), but Everything feels lonely.
So one day he decides to give a creature a gift. A gift his parents warned him not to grant. But grant it he did. Now the real fun begins...
This is Father Infinity. He's a bit scary, but also very wise. (He's literally 'seen it all'.) It's not easy being the King of the Universe. (Being the Husband of Nothing can be challenging to say the least.)
He's also the father of a difficult son, Everything. He gives Everything advice, but can he help when the consequences of his son's actions are too much to bear?
This is Mother Nothing. One could say she started it all, birthed the whole Universe. But it's a cold lonely place, so she decided to dream up a husband. (Who appeared seemingly out of, well you know...)
It all seemed to be going well until her son realized that life wasn't fun without company...
